Design Port DomainsYour domain name is imperative to the success of your web site & if anyone disagrees, well let's just say they don't know what they are talking about. Choosing the wrong domain name for your site could have a negative impact skew your ROI (Return on Investment). On the other hand, having the right web domain name can have extremely positive long term implications that can make all the difference. Please consider the following principles as we enter the planning process for your site.

Always Use ".com" & or ".net".
If yours is a serious business site in America, avoid using domains ending in .biz, .info or .us if possible to ensure credibility. The one exception to this is if you are running a business in a country other than in the US. Consider using your own country code i.e. ".CA"-Canada, ".BR"-Brazil, ".FR"-France etc.

Don’t Make Your Primary Domain too Long.
Although 67 character domains are possible, how many of your users will want to type a domain name like "www.yourwebsiteisreallygood.com" or "www.Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.com"? Bottom line is get to the point.

Avoid using Hyphens in Your Domain.
Domains containing hyphens are difficult to remember, spell & pronounce. This is somewhat subjective so use caution.

Domain Names Should Contain Keywords Applicable for Your Industry.
This will help your customers remember your domain name better. Furthermore, for searches conducted in Yahoo, Google, & MSN etc!

If Not Available Find the Owner.
If the domain name you are interested in is not available & not actually online as an active site, consider using a domain broker to negotiate a sale. Your success rate will depend on many factors, including the desirability of the name & the number of potential buyers the broker can expose your name to. Prices can really range so don't be shocked if you get asking prices in excess of thousands$$$.
